Heat generated by the pipe will heat the gas tank up and gas tank will build up pressure inside. The vent hose on the gas tank has a one-way valve that will whistle and if you remove the gas cap then it releases the pressure.

Ive recently replaced all the breather''s on the VS''s fuel tank, couldnt find the factory clear hose but I used 3/16" (4.8mm) ID fuel injection hose and it was a direct replacement. EDIT: get a few metres of it to be on the safe side.
