My shop-vac came with a 1.5" diameter hose, when I switch to a 2" diameter hose of the same length it seems to perform better all around. I don''t have any clear tube to measure suction scientifically, but I found an object that weighs enough that the 1.5" hose will barely pick it up if held very steadily.
